On behalf of our School and Parish community, welcome to the St Peter Chanel Catholic School website.  Located in Smithton on the far north west coast of Tasmania,  St Peter Chanel Catholic School provides classes from Kindergarten to Grade Six.  We also value and support early learning through our Birth to Four Learning Treasures Program.

The Gospel values of love, compassion, service and justice underpin all that we do.  We are a welcoming and inclusive school community where we believe all students have the right to grow to their full potential in a supportive, safe and engaging environment. Our community has high expectations, challenging each individual to flourish to reach their God-given potential.

Our staff are enthusiastic, highly dedicated, qualified and committed to the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of all through life long learning.  We help our students to feel secure and experience success so they learn to view themselves as valued members of a community.

At St Peter Chanel we offer a diverse, rigorous and dynamic curriculum that caters for all.  The design of each school day incorporates clear and structured learning times.   We provide a range of opportunities including student leadership, extension, perceptual motor and swimming programs, sports, camps and specialist subjects in PE, Music, the Arts and Languages.  Our school has a strong cultural program and has a presence in the community through excursions and extra-curricular activities.

Social-emotional well-being is embedded in all facets of our school culture.  Students are given opportunity to build a stronger understanding of self and of others through various programs offered.  All students are expected to ‘aim high’ in every aspect of life at St Peter Chanel Catholic School.  Necessary preconditions to learning such as nutrition, sleep and hydration are emphasised and supported in collaboration with families.  We aspire to ensure every child is given their best possible opportunity to flourish.

We value and support partnerships with parents/guardians in the daily education of their children.  We hold strong beliefs that this should be founded on a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation, communication and involvement.  It is an enormous privilege to work with families in our Catholic context.

Please feel free to explore our website and contact the school for further information or to arrange a tour so you can experience our warm and engaging environment first hand.

Best wishes,
